JER 2023 Review

The REGAL Student Day (JER), a flagship activity of the Centre’s programming, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023! For the 2023 edition, REGAL and AluQuébec, the Quebec Aluminium Cluster, have joined forces to host the INALCO 2023 conference, with which the JER has been paired.

More than 250 people from 14 countries attended the event in 2023. 77 technical conferences were presented, including about fifteen by the REGAL student community. In parallel with the technical conferences, 50 students participated in the scientific poster competition.

This year, 10 finalists were selected to present their poster orally to INALCO delegates. A jury composed of 6 international experts evaluated the presentations. All finalists received $250 for their participation.

Prizes were awarded to the top 3 positions. Thus, Alyaa Bakr, Liying Cui and Esmaeil Pourkhoshid, all doctoral students at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC), were awarded a scholarship of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. REGAL is proud to point out that 2 out of 3 recipients are women. This is a sign that times are changing! Louis Ouellette was awarded the $500 prize given to a member of the next generation (bachelor’s degree level).
