Mission

Our mission

Addressing fundamental and applied issues related to Al production, processing and utilization, by creating a world-class research and training environment

Welcome to the REGAL website

As the management team of the Centre de recherche sur l’aluminium (REGAL), we invite you to browse our website, which is intended to be a constantly evolving image of research in the field of aluminum in Quebec. REGAL’s strength is to bring together in a single entity valuable expertise that covers all aluminum research niches in Quebec. REGAL’s various activities and the dynamism of its members reflect our aspiration to become a center of excellence on a global scale. To achieve its mission, the Center focuses on four key aspects:

  • Train highly qualified personnel (HQP) and promote knowledge transfer to industry
  • Align research with societal needs by focusing on advances in processes and products
  • Create synergy between universities, CEGEPs and the Al ecosystem
  • Facilitate collaboration between its members as well as with other major global centers specialized in the field

Formation of the group

REGAL has members in eight academic institutions, 63 professors and more than 40 external academic and industrial collaborators. Together, they are active in research projects covering the entire aluminium value chain. It currently hosts 150 graduate students. In this regard, the Center is continually recruiting students for master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral projects attached to different departments of member institutions.
Graduate Studies Opportunities

The Centre works with industrial research sector groups (RSRI) such as the Quebec Advanced Materials Research and Innovation Cluster (PRIMA), the Consortium de recherche et d’innovation en transformation métallique (CRITM) and the Centre québécois de recherche et de développement de l’aluminium (CQRDA), which support applied research in partnership with the Centre’s members. It collaborates with the Comité sectoriel de main-d’oeuvre de la métallurgie (CSMO-M) on issues related to training highly qualified workers and with AluQuébec (an aluminum cluster comprising more than 200 companies), which it supports in terms of the research needs of the industrial sector. No other research group in Quebec or elsewhere can represent a comparable force in tackling the challenges of Al. REGAL’s fields of activity cover the entire Al value chain: extraction, primary production, transformation into alloys, product manufacturing and end-of-life recycling. For more details, see the Scientific Program.

Our commitment as a welcoming environment

Promoting a sense of inclusion at REGAL

Having at heart the needs in equity, diversity and inclusion of underrepresented groups, the Centre is committed to respecting the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion as defined by its funding body, the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ)
